DIAF DECONSTRUCTED COAT
SIZE:
L
DESCRIPTION

The DIAF DECONSTRUCTED COAT appears as a garment suspended in a liminal state, neither fully formed nor fully dismantled. Its oversized, cloud-like structure envelops the body in an ambiguous volume, as if wrapped in layers of synthetic mist. The silhouette exaggerates classical tailoring tropes: large lapels, swollen sleeves, and drooping hems that blur the edge between coat and cocoon. Subtle asymmetries, bunching, and transparency invoke a sense of fragility, like archival fashion trapped inside a vacuum-sealed moment. More apparition than garment, it acts as a spectral shell for a body in flux.

process

Assembled through an intuitive process of layering, distortion, and concealment, the DIAF DECONSTRUCTED COAT resists singular categorization. Its construction privileges gesture over technique, creating a form that feels both improvised and intentional. The piece was developed as part of the Balleth Meccanicue 2023 experimental capsule, exploring notions of weightlessness, opacity, and temporary presence. Each coat exists as a one-off, shaped more by mood than method, and is presented as a wearable ghost-transitory, abstract, and charged with unresolved energy.
